Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 14, 2026.
Times Tables Trainer ("we," "us," or "our") is a free online platform that helps elementary school students practice their times tables. We are committed to protecting the privacy of children, parents, and teachers who use our service.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the rights you have. It applies to visitors of timestablestrainer.com and anyone using our practice quizzes, class tools, or teacher accounts.
Who We Are
Times Tables Trainer is operated by e-Study, a Dutch company. While our service is designed for the U.S. market, we are based in the Netherlands, and our servers are located in the Netherlands. This means data we collect is processed in the European Union and is subject to European data protection law (the GDPR) in addition to the U.S. laws described below.
Children's Privacy — COPPA Compliance
We take the privacy of children very seriously. Most of our users are between 7 and 12 years old, which means the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) applies to most of what we do.
What we collect from children
We are designed to collect as little personal information from children as possible. From children we collect only:
- First name (or nickname) — used to label their progress and print their certificate.
- Practice progress (which times tables, how many stars) — stored locally on the device in a browser cookie, and on our server only when a class password is used.
We do not ask children for their last name, email address, phone number, photo, home address, or any other directly identifying information.
Anonymous use (no account)
Children can use the entire service without creating any account at all. In this case, progress is stored only in their browser as cookies and is never linked to a personal identity. If their browser cookies are cleared, their progress is reset.
Use with a class password
Teachers can create a class and share a class password with their students. When a student enters the class password, they pick their first name from a list the teacher has set up and their progress is then saved on our server linked to that first name and class. Because the teacher controls who gets access to the class password and which first names are on the list, the teacher acts as the school’s agent under COPPA. Schools and teachers should obtain any parental consent required by their local school policies before using class accounts.
Parental rights
If you are the parent or guardian of a child whose information is stored in a class account, you may at any time:
- Review the information stored about your child;
- Ask us to delete it;
- Ask us to stop further collection.
Please contact us at helpdesk.estudy@gmail.com with the child's first name and class name and we will act within 30 days. We may verify your relationship to the child before acting on a request.
Information We Collect From Teachers
When a teacher creates an account, we collect:
- Email address — used to log in and to send password-reset emails;
- A password — stored in hashed form, never in plain text;
- Class names and student first names — created by the teacher;
- Student practice progress within their classes.
Teachers are responsible for any personal information they enter into the service, including student first names.
Information Collected Automatically
When anyone visits the site, our hosting provider automatically records standard technical information:
- IP address (used to protect the site against abuse, and shortened or removed from logs as soon as possible);
- Browser and operating-system type;
- The page you visited and when.
This information is used only to keep the site secure and reliable. It is not linked to a child's identity.
Cookies
We use a small number of cookies. See our Cookie Policy for a complete list and instructions on how to manage them.
How We Use Information
We use the information described above only for:
- Running the practice quizzes and tracking progress so students can earn their certificate;
- Allowing teachers to see their class’s progress;
- Sending password-reset emails to teachers who request them;
- Keeping the site secure and free of abuse;
- Showing relevant, non-personalized advertising on parts of the site (see “Advertising” below).
We do not sell personal information. We do not use personal information for targeted advertising to children.
Advertising
We display advertising from Google AdSense on some pages to keep the service free. Because most of our visitors are children, we ask Google to serve only non-personalized advertising on our site. Non-personalized ads do not use cookies or device identifiers for ad-targeting. Google may still set a cookie for frequency capping, aggregated ad reporting, and to combat fraud and abuse. See the Google ad policies for more information.
How We Share Information
We share information only in these limited cases:
- With teachers about their own classes — teachers see progress for the students they enrolled in their class.
- With our hosting and email providers — to run the site and send teacher password-reset emails. These providers process data on our behalf and are not allowed to use it for their own purposes.
- When required by law — if we are legally required to disclose information, for example in response to a valid court order.
We do not sell or rent personal information to anyone.
Your Rights Under U.S. State Laws (including California)
If you are a resident of California or another U.S. state with a consumer-privacy law (such as Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, or Virginia), you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we have about you;
- Delete the personal information we hold about you;
- Correct inaccurate personal information;
- Opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information (we do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of);
- Not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights.
To exercise these rights, contact us at helpdesk.estudy@gmail.com. We may need to verify your identity before responding.
Your Rights Under the GDPR (EU/EEA)
Because our company and servers are in the European Union, every visitor — including visitors from the U.S. — benefits from the protections of the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you;
- Rectify inaccurate information;
- Erase ("right to be forgotten") information we hold;
- Restrict or object to how we process information;
- Data portability — receive your information in a portable format;
- Withdraw consent for any processing that relies on your consent;
- Lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
Data Retention
We keep data only as long as we need it:
- Anonymous progress — only in the user's own browser; we don't store it on our server.
- Class progress — kept for as long as the class exists. When a teacher deletes a class or their account, all associated student data is deleted within 30 days.
- Teacher accounts — kept until the teacher deletes them. Accounts that have not been used for two years are automatically deleted after a notification email.
- Server logs — kept for up to 30 days for security and troubleshooting.
Data Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect information, including HTTPS encryption in transit, password hashing, regular updates of server software, and access controls on databases. No system is 100% secure, but we work hard to keep data safe.
Transfers of Data
Data is stored in the European Union (the Netherlands). If you visit from the United States or anywhere else, your data is transferred to and processed in the EU. The EU provides a high level of privacy protection under the GDPR.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Material changes will be announced on the homepage and, when possible, by emailing teachers who have accounts.
